The Covid-19 and the Filipinos

In our country, the Philippines, Covid-19 cases continue to rise. Many Filipinos are stubborn and seem to take for granted the government’s policy on the wearing of face mask and face shield as well as the use of alcohol. They do not observe social distancing measure. As a consequence, instead of the number of active cases being reduced, it continues to rise.

Everyday, TV newscasters report about persons testing positive for the disease, persons who died and others who are confined either in overcrowded hospitals or quarantine places. Statistics presented on the TV screen show that those who contacted covid-19 outnumber those who got cured.

The abovementioned facts and information can be attributed to what seems like hardheadedness and other not-so-good traits and characteristics of the Filipinos. Why can’t they just be obedient to lawful orders? Why can’t they act in solidarity so that problem of this magnitude can be solved?

When vaccines to combat covid-19 were developed and given to the people, many refused to be vaccinated. How do we expect covid-19 to disappear with people displaying such attitude?

Covid-19 has given our country and the world so much suffering. Many people have already lost their jobs. Many are feeling insecure and are worrying about where to get their next meals.

Students have not seen their school rooms, teachers and classmates in person for so long a time now. Having been stuck in their homes for almost a couple of years now, the situation has bored them to death.

It’s about time Filipinos take this pandemic situation seriously. They should end this pandemic and live freely from covid-19 again.
